Profile Character Name: Namiashi Raidou Age: 24. Birthday: August 28th Rank outside ANBU: Special Jounin. Affiliated with which ANBU branch: Hunters -- field ops Registration Number: 009717
Physical Appearance Height: 183cm (6'0") Weight: 84 kg (185lbs) Blood Type: AB
Hair: Reddish-brown and short. It stands up in untidy spikes all over his head, despite whatever he tries to do with it. Mostly he leaves it to its own devices. When he was younger he used to go to a barbers, but once he discovered that roughly the same effect could be achieved with a kunai and some luck he stopped bothering. Facial hair, eyebrows and body hair are a few shades darker, almost pure brown. When he wants he can actually grow a decent beard--but only on one side of his face. For obvious reasons he prefers to stay clean shaven.
Eyes: Dark brown and slightly narrow. Warm and thoughtful when he's not scowling.
Skin: Raidou is one of the few fortunate ninja in the world to have something like a perma-tan. Light coffee coloured in summer and just a touch paler then that in winter, he certainly doesn't look like a man who spends most of his time in the dark. The many scars, however, do lend some credence to his claim as a shinobi.
Facial Features: In most respects Raidou is a fairly handsome young man with his square jaw, straight nose, clear eyes and even features. The broad trail of scar tissue, however, that begins at the bridge of his nose and cuts down his cheek to drop of the edge of his jaw, somewhat mars the image. The scar in question doesn't end there. The result of acid drenched claws, the flesh looks as if it has melted and warped and healed again, frozen now in a pattern of rippling waves that flows across his skin, down his neck and over his chest to end roughly at the bottom of his left pectoral. It covers the bulk of his left shoulder, edging down his back towards the blade, and just skims the red rim of his ANBU tattoo.
Other Physical Traits: Tall, broad-shouldered and solidly muscled, Raidou is a powerful man in the peak of physical condition. His hands are wide and strong, with long blunt fingers and a good grip; perfect for forming seals and cracking skulls together. If he hadn't been a ninja, he probably would have been a wrestler.
Handedness: Something of a righty, but like any ninja Raidou is adept at using both hands for weapons.
Voice: Low and deep. An unmistakable rich, smoky baritone.
Identifying Marks: ANBU tattoo on his left biceps and, of course, his scar.
Usual Clothing: On duty Raidou will always be found in his jounin uniform or ANBU armour. Off duty he prefers slightly loose comfortable clothes in muted colours -- jeans and sweaters for preference. Raidou tends to avoid tank tops or similar clothes that display his neck, chest, or upper arms. In winter he has an odd predilection for wearing brightly coloured scarfs, no one has yet been able to get a satisfactory answer as to why.
ANBU Mask: An ox, painted in stark black swirls.
Living Situation: HQ compound. Third floor, room 318.
Ninja Skills Fighting Style: Raidou's speciality is close range combat. With his long reach, quick reflexes and immense physical strength, he makes a formidable opponent. By no means a genius he is still more then adept at taijutsu, ninjutsu and kenjutsu. Genjutsu he is less comfortable with. Hot headed--some would say bull-headed, but Raidou figures his mask says that for him anyway--and bloody-minded, he has to be literally put down and out before he will even consider giving up.
Preferred Weapons: Kunai, shuriken, tags, the standard issue ANBU ninjaken, and his own hands and feet.
Special Jutsu: None worth mentioning.
Service Record: Graduated the academy at ten, made Chuunin at thirteen, Special Jounin at nineteen, and ANBU a few months later following the Kyuubi attack. Raidou gained much of his combat experience deployed on the front lines of the Third Ninja War with his genin team. Hardened in the crucible of real battle, he is used to mêlées, used to clusterfucks, and used to thinking quickly on his feet. He doesn't panic, he never backs down, and more often then not he'll take an extraordinary amount of damage keeping his teammates safe.
Personality General Personality Traits: Raidou is what you get when the rock meets the hard place. Completely straightforward, he's not a man you would go to for coddling, but he has mastered the technique of being blunt without being tactless. One of nature's rule lovers, he follows the one-hundred shinobi codes of conduct in spirit, if not to the letter. Fortunately a semi-decent brain between his ears means he actually thinks about the rules that govern his life, rather then just following them blind. He also has no problem telling someone--up to and including the Hokage--to go to hell if need be (a trait that has gotten him into trouble on more then one occasion).
A good ninja, Raidou is aware of and comfortable with his skill level, and has no problem getting seven kinds of crap kicked out of him for the sake of his village. Which is not to suggest he wouldn't kick back. Firm--some would say strict--with a solid mission focus, he has a well deserved reputation as a survivor. More then once he's been the only one to walk, limp or drag himself back from a mission with a few more sets of dog tags tied around his wrists.
Raidou's temper is the slow-burn kind. It builds up behind the walls of his patience until something triggers a Mount Vesuvius reaction--and then you better duck and roll, my friend. He's uncomfortable playing leader--he tried it once, it didn't work out--but for a back up man you couldn't ask for a better guy. Loyal to a fault, he watches out for his buddies, walking the extra mile and then some.
With three younger brothers, Raidou has a fierce protective streak in him, and keeps a watchful eye on the ANBU rookies. (And the veterans. And anyone in Konoha that looks like they could use a hand.) Once you get to know him--and get past his humour--you'll find he's the quintessential nice guy and absolutely solid down to his core. He takes a certain amount of pride in being unbreakable.
Quirks: He prefers coffee over tea, sunrise over sunset, and hanging out with buddies over a date any day of the week. He dislikes cats but occasionally entertains the idea of getting a dog. He can cook--and not just with a microwave. His apartment is generally so clean you could eat that well-cooked flood off the floor (of course, if you tried that he would have to drop-kick you). And he never takes his dog tags off.
Sexual Orientation: Soldier-sexual. But so far, just women.
Gifts/Talents: The man cannot be beaten, he will get up and get up and get up long after the point when a sensible shinobi would've given up and died. If you axed both of his legs off at the knee he would still get up, and then he would beat you to death with his shins. He's also extraordinarily good at reading body language.
Flaws: Head-strong, quirky and unafraid of insubordination, Raidou can be a difficult man to get along with when the mood strikes him. His temper can, on occasion, turn especially ugly, provoking him to violence against anyone that doesn't get out of his way fast enough. Weakness in others, particularly his teammates, can set his teeth on edge. He never backs down, he never taps out, and he wouldn't give up even facing an army on his lonesome.
Religion and Philosophy: Culturally Shinto/Buddhist, but he himself is not religious. In his deeper moments he occasionally waxes philosophical.
Likes and Loves: Raidou is a man of simple pleasures. He likes a good book, a good conversation, good food, and occasionally watching television upside down (he says he's more comfortable that way.) He enjoys training, loves a good sparring session, and, when he doesn't have a mission in the morning, likes to chill out with some good people and some good beer.
Dislikes and Hates: Poor time-keeping, partners that muck up their mission write ups, screwing up a mission, mirrors, when people pay too close attention to his scar, when people die.
Fears: There aren't many things left for Raidou to fear. He can't lose his looks again, his pain tolerance is through the roof, and death will come when it does--though he has no intentions of lying down and letting it take him. Above anything he dreads the loss of his teammates, Genma, and his remaining family.
Dreams and Ambitions: In his lighter moments, Raidou occasionally entertains a vision of getting out of ANBU with all his limbs, finding some nice girl that doesn't run screaming at the sight of him (pretty would be a bonus, but he'd settle for sweet-tempered) and settling down to raise a tribe of Namaishi. In his realistic moments he aspires to be a name on a rock and a big damn hero, but not before he has to be.
Relationships Family: His family is very small now. His father, Namaishi Takahiro, died in ANBU when Raidou was very young, and his mother, Manami, remarried when he was ten. She took the last name of his step-father, Tatsuno Katsurou, and soon had three children; all boys. Tatsuno Jiro, now thirteen, Tatsuno Hiroshi, now eleven, and Tatsuno Setsurou, now eight. Manami was killed on a mission when Raidou was seventeen. Katsarou followed suit when Raidou was nineteen, only a few months before the kyuubi attack. His step-brothers were taken into foster care, mostly for their own good. He does his best to see them when he can.
Friends: Raidou is fairly friendly with most people he meets, and works well with teammates. He has a tendency to mentor the rookies and likes to buddy around with the veterans. His closest friend is Shiranui Genma but, despite what people say, Raidou isn't interested in him that way. Possibly being one of the few people on the planet to make such a claim.
Lovers: Never anything permanent. He had a few 'arrangements' with women in the war that worked out well for everyone--they didn't care what he looked like as long as he was good at what he did, and Raidou got some company.
Hero: He wouldn't call him a hero, but he does find Lao Tze fascinating.
Enemies: Ordinarily; the contents of the bingo book and anyone that looks at him cross-eyed. When he's in a bad mood--everyone.
Personal History: Raidou knew he was going to be a ninja before he could walk. Before he could talk. His birth sound was a battle cry, his childhood games were knock-down drag-out fights. His father was an ANBU and Raidou knew, looking up at that still mask from his crib, that there was nothing else in life he would ever want to be.
Raidou's father died when he was four, killed on a mission his small family were never given the details to. He left his son a broken mask, a set of dog tags, and a promise to look after his mother. Raidou took that promise seriously and when his mother remarried six years later it took him a long, long time to warm up to his step-father. But eventually he did, and the family of two grew to a family of six with two parents and four kids. All they really needed was the dog, but then the war kicked into high gear and there was barely time for people, let alone pets.
When Raidou was seventeen his mother was killed on a mission. His step-father began to take on harder and harder missions in order to bring in money for his family. Raidou, by that point a chuunin and away on the front lines a lot, moved out to make the burden easier. He took to sending home as much of his pay check as he could afford and pushed himself hard to make special jounin.
Raidou's step-father was killed on a mission shortly before the kyuubi attack when Raidou was nineteen. His three brothers--he's never once called them half-brothers, they're brothers and they're his, dammit--were moved through a series of foster homes before being settled in a place that suited them.
Raidou made special jounin just before the kyuubi attack. Following the devastation left by the fox, ANBU were desperate for new soldiers and Raidou joined up without a second thought. He was needed and his brothers needed the money he could make taking on tougher missions.
He found his niche in ANBU. Hardened by his time on the front lines and his short but informative career as a ninja, there's not much left that can surprise him, and a lot that he's good at.
